Christmas Interiors DIY - Gemstone Tree

Today's Blogmas Post is a Christmas DIY. Now I'm normally rubbish at all things crafty, my Mam is amazing at this stuff but the talent seemed to skip me by, however this quick Gemstone Tree Tutorial is super easy and I think great for people who actually aren't too artistic or creative.

I first saw these trees on a trip to Edinburgh and thought they were gorgeous, but also super expensive! Now I have my own house I thought it was a good time to try and take a leaf out of Motherears book and get my house looking pretty, she thought I could probably make one of these trees I loved so much and turns out she was right! So if you'd like to have a go yourself, keep on reading!

You Will Need:
Ruler
Gemstone Beads (I bought two necklaces off Amazon to use, the stones need to have two holes in them so you can thread them onto the wire).
Tealight Holder
Wire Cutters
Glue Gun
Decorative Gravel or extra Gemstone Beads for the base of the tree.
22 guage copper wire in your choice of colour (approx 25 feet)
Cut into 10 strips of 2 and a half feet.

Firstly you will need to measure your wire and cut it into 10 seperate 2 and a half foot lengths, this doesn't need to be exact.

Thread a bead onto your wire until it is in the middle, then bend your wire in half and begin twisting the bead roud in circles whilst keeping the wire between your fingers, this will gradually twist the wire as shown above.

Twist down about 3/4 of an inch, you will now have two wires coming off your first bead.

Next thread on asecond bead onto one of the wire edges and bend it back on itself as shown above, leaving anotehr 3/4 inch length between the bead and the base, then repeat the twisting stage.

Repeat the twisting stage on both sides of the wire.

Repeat the above stage on either side of the remaining wire, each time beding the wire back on itself, leaving apporximitely 3/4 of an inch between the bead and the centre.

Once you have added the 5 leaves to the tree you should be left with something that looks like the above picture, from here twist the two strands of wire together for another quarter of an inch.

You should have created the first branch of your tree looking something like the above picture.

Use all 10 lengths of wire to create ten different branches.

Once, you have ten branches, take two of them and start to twist the wire together where the twisted secitons end, I found it easier to group two wires together, one from each branch, and then twist. once you have 5 grouped branches you can start to work them all together to create your tree, carry on twisting and bringing in new branches and twiset down the wire.

Once all branches have been incorporated, take all of the remaining wire and twist this part into a trunk.

You'll probably be left with a few different odd lengths of wire at the end of your trunk, twist these round into a ball at the bottom of the tree, but be careful doing this as you can stab tourself a little!

Now you need your glue gun, put a blob of glue in the bottom of your tealight holder. and then press the base of your tree into it, hold for a minute or two until the glue dries and the tree is set in place.

Now you can add glue to your tealight holder and drop in either some decorative pebbles or gravel or some extra beads into the holder to finish off the tree. I went and got some samples from a dashing company (who dash your house with gravel) but in the end decided to use the same gemstone beads that I'd used for my leaves so it would all match. Drop the beads or gravel onto the glue before it hardens.

Turn your tree upside down so any loose beads will drop out, from here you can then add more glue and touch up the base of your tree with extra beads.

And that's it, you've got yourself a Homemade Gemstone Tree. I hope these instructions were easy to follow, let me know if you have any questions on this one as it's tricky to explain in text! And do let me know if you attempt this gemstone tree yourself!

Christmas Decoration Wishlist

Having just bought my first home, this year's Christmas Shopping is especially exciting for me. I have already been and bought some stuff which you can find in my Winter Homeware Haul and below I've picked out a few things that I would love to have pride of place in my home (once funds allow!), I hope you find some Christmas inspiration from it!

1) Christmas Wall Art - £12.00 Next
Believe in Santa? Like there's an alternative?! This Christmas Wall Art is just too cute and would go perfectly in my new kitchen!

2) Woven Wood Star Tree Topper - £4.00 Wilkinsons
So this one I can probably make a reality, very reasonably priced and perfect for my gold, bronze and brown colour scheme!

3) Christmas Wreath - £14.99 Tesco
My Mam puts a Christmas wreath on our front door every year. It's a tradition I want to continue in my own home and I really like the look of this one. I think having outdoor decorations really brings the festive spirit to your neighbourhood and as Christmas lights can be expensive to maintain, a simple wreath is perfect for that Christmassy touch.

4) 6ft Deluxe Christmas Tree - £200 Next
Ok, so this doesn't have the cheapest price tag, but it says deluxe for a reason! For now I have a temporary cheaper tree but eventually I'd love one like this! It's 6ft tall and very realistic looking (without having to deal with those pine needles and potential spider invasions!) It's a really full looking tree, but will unfortunately have to stay on the wish list until at least next year.

5) Gold Effect Glass Baubles - £25.00 M&S
I want my main Christmas Tree in my living room to be gold, bronze and brown. I can toss in some red elsewhere! These are gorgeous baubles they're very luxurious and I'd love to add them to my collection.

6) Personalised Christmas Stocking - £35.00 Not on the Highstreet
This is the cutest stocking for adults, I'm definitely going to hang one from my fireplace. I love the red Scandinavian design to this and to have my name knitted on the top? Bonus!

7) Decorative White Twig Tree - £20.00 Hobbycraft
My Auntie bought one of these last year and decorated it with lots of little baubles, it's such a cute modern twist to the Christmas tree (although she had one of those too & so would I!). It's a great way to bring some extra colour to a room that you don't have your main tree in!

8) Christmas Frosted Pine Candle - £15.00 John Lewis
This decorative scented candle is the perfect Christmas table accompaniment, ideally three placed along my table runner! With 15 hours burn time they'd see me well throughout the Christmas period.

9) Christmas Musical Train Set - £29.99 The Range
I've always wanted a little train set that runs around the bottom of my Christmas tree. This one from the range lights up and plays music. The perfect festive addition to my tree!

What's on your wishlist this year? Have you bought any special decorations for Christmas?

Christmas Winter Candles

I'm a big candle lover, and winter is the perfect time to burn a few of my favourites whilst chilling on the sofa with a yummy hot chocolate. Myself and 3 other bloggers decided to do a mini Candle collaboration. We all love candles and this is a great way to spread the news about our favourites and maybe discover a new one (or three, or four!) These are my picks!

Dark Orchid And Patchouli Home Fragrance Gift Set from Next
This is quite a musky scent, it's a blend of  orchid, patchouli and amber. I have the set, which includes 2 votive candles and a mini diffuser, but the three wick candle is also gorgeous and is packaged beautifully, so when I'm done with these I think I'll purchase that one as replacement.

Yankee Candle Soft Blanket
This is such a relaxing, muted scent. I love Yankee Candles, but sometimes certain smells can be overly powerful or way too sweet, which I just don't go for. This however is perfect. It's a mix of vanilla, amber and citrus and the name is perfect because all I want to do is wrap up in a soft blanket and chill when it's burning!

Lily Flame
All of the Lily Flame candle tins are so pretty, almost too pretty to burn! This is a slightly stronger, heavier scent that the other two but just as lovely. The strong, floral, jasmine aroma of it just makes you feel cosy and warm, perfect for those winter sofa days.

If you too are a candle obsessive, then head over to Ashley, Rachael & Charlotte's blogs where you can see their Favourite Candle posts!

Winter Homeware Haul

My move in date is finally drawing close after 4 long months of renovations and DIY, and it means I can do what I love best... Shop! I have most of the 'big' home purchases, but the little knick knacks and details are much more fun.

I've picked up a few winter homeware things recently as Christmas is almost upon us and I'm feeling the wintery/christmas vibe! Here's what I've picked up.

I got some Fairisle Reindeer Bedding from a local homeware store. This bedding is gorgeous, it's very festive but not in a garish red and green sort of way. It's brushed cotton and one of the comfiest duvet's I've had which may or may not be due to a little helping hand from my next item.

The 15 Tog Double Duvet is one of the best boring purchases I've made for my house. For those of you as clueless as me when it comes to buying a duvet, the tog is the thickness and this one is a perfect plump, warm and wintery one! I was beggining to feel the chill so this has been the perfect addition to my bed to keep me cosy!

I picked up the white reindeer ornament (which is actually a Moose but who can really tell right?) from the Gift Company, this will be popped on my mantlepiece throughout December.

I also got these Christmas lights* for my tree, there's 100 lights with 8 different twinkle settings to choose from, these came from the LED Hut. These warm toned lights can be used either indoors or outdoors but they'll be taking pride of place on my living room tree! Be sure to check back for my 'What's On My Tree' post!

I also ordered a Lily Flame Candle in 'Wild Jasmine', I adore candles at this time of year. This one smells lovely as do most of the Lily Flame offerings!

I picked up a couple of boxes of baubles from B&M, they were super affordable at £1.99 a box, I'll be adding to my tree gradually with some more unique and pretty baubles but these are perfect for getting me started. Especially when I have to start from scratch with my Xmas decs this year!

Lastly, this cute little Santa mug, also from the Gift Company is what I'll be enjoying all my festive hot chocolate's in! There was a Reindeer and Penguin too, might find myself going back for the full set! I'm sure I'll be adding lots to this list over the next few weeks, I'm so excited to start decorating with the things I want to, and putting together my tree!

What do you think of my Winter Homeware Haul? Have you been buying any Christmas things recently? Let me know in the comments!

Interiors - Frame Again Photo Display

I am probably what you'd call a photo junkie (think 3000 photo's on a 2 week holiday) my friends all comment on the extreme number of pictures I take on a night out or trip away but I love keeping the memories!

In this digital age I find it really sad that we take so many lovely pictures, upload them to Facebook or Instagram and then never look at them again, so I'm pretty big on printing pictures, but recently had a drama where 1000 printed photo's I ordered came and were too big to fit in my newly bought, pretty photo albums *sigh*. It can be a bit of a chore to get your pictures printed, sized correctly and framed and we're all so busy now I can see why many of us just keep our pictures locked away on our phones, but there's something special about having a physical photo you can hold and look at or having them framed pride of place in your home, we could just do with something to make it quick and easy to do!

Enter..Frame Again. This company has set up an easy online service that you can use from your phone or computer. You simply upload your pics from your phone or Instagram and it is delivered to you super quickly, printed and framed in a cool modern design! Simple!

Upload Your Photo
The great thing about Frame Again is the square shape, it's basically built to cater to your Instagram pics! Who else has tried to print pics from Instagram and they've turned up with the top chopped off because the square shape was scaled to fit a traditional 6"x4" photo? (please not just me?!). Obviously your pics don't have to be on Instagram and you can upload one straight from your computer or phone album and then choose where you want it cropped to fit the frame.

Pick Your Colours
There's tonnes of examples of how people have matched their frame to their photo over on the Frame Again website, with lots of colours to pick from. Unfortunately my first choices of colours were out of stock but the guys at Frame Again chose these for me so my delivery wasn't late and then offered me a swap if I wasn't happy. Top customer service! You could match your frame to highlight the essence of your pic or to match in with your home decor. I think it's a really cool idea to be able to personalise your frame in an edgy modern way!

Pay
Yep that's the last step, a quick and easy payment and your frame will be sent out to you! Mine came the next day, super speedy! The frames are currently half price at just £9.99 instead of the usual £19.99.

My Frame

I ordered this photo for my bedroom, it's a picture taken on my birthday this year where me and a few friends took part in the Leeds 'Color Me Rad' 5k Run, it's such a colourful fun picture and I'm so happy to have found a colourful, fun and modern frame to match it! I'm putting this on my bookshelf but you can also hang them from the wall, they're even magnetic so if you got a few they can all stick together. The one thing I was unsure of was whether I could change my picture when (if!) I got bored of it and yes you can! There's loads more info on the Frame Again FAQ page, or you can leave me a comment with your question!

For the Dragon's Den fans out there you may recognise this product, this is the first time I have ever seen a Dragon give a job offer following a pitch! But that's just what Peter Jones (who owns Jessops) did for the pair behind this Company, the Photo junkie in me is glad they declined and I'm looking forward to what else Frame Again come up with! Find their websie here and let me know if you pick up any fun frame designs for your photo's!

What do you think of my new photo frame? Are you a fan of printing your pictures out too? I'm adding the grey and white frame to my dressing room wishlist as soon as the colours are back in stock!
